Eating disorders can be caused by emotional issues or trauma, i.e. Relationship problems, bullying, bereavement, redundancy, low self-esteem, abuse and relatives with perfectionist tendencies. Other elements such as work, social or school pressures can play a part as well as the effects of media and a cultural obsession with dieting.
People with anxiety are particularly susceptible as well as those in the public eye such as those involved in sports and theatre. Vulnerable people at also at risk.
There are different eating disorders which include,
- Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) / Selective Eating Disorder (SED)
- Anorexia Nervosa
- Bulimia Nervosa
